I just bought a Playstation move yesterday! I bought the move starter pack, which came with the PS Eye, PS Move and the Move Starter disc. I am really enjoying this and I thought i ought to make a review.
The Move itself.
The PS Move is a very good shape, and fits very nicely in the hand. The move button is a thumb-like shape and is really easy to press. The trigger on the back is also a very nice shape for your index finger and has a very nice spring-like feel to it.
The sphere on the end of the controller is very nice, and lights up a certain colour depending on what activity or game you are playing. One let down is that because it is a rubbery material, lots of dirt is easily attracted to it, and the only way of getting of off is by cleaning it with water or a wipe. Its hard to just rub off.
However, because the sphere is rubbery, it doesn’t smash or break easily. Its quite a durable controller, and comes with a nice hand strap as well.
Working with the Eye.
The PS Move is a great piece of kit, but you can only use it if you buy a Playstation eye, which is a bit costly as it costs around £25. However when they are both set up, the move is INCREDIBLY accurate and tracks your movements very easily and quickly. The playstation eye itself is a let down though. The quality is only 640×480 pixels, its grainy and works appallingly in low light. It looks a little bit ugly as well, with a huge microphone at the top sticking out a bit. However, it does the job well and takes pictures and videos.
Comparison to Rivals
Kinect-
Compared to the Kniect I would personally prefer the PS Move. However, i prefer the Kinect to the PS eye. The Kinect is HD, and has a colour lens and TWO INFRARED LENS for 3D. The Kinect is much more better and tracking 3d movement compared to the PS eye, however the move controllers make up for this in a much more accurate way, and costs slightly less. However, if you prefer hands-free motion, then you should go for the kinect.
Wii- The Move is outstandily advanced compared to the Nintendo Wii, and the added bonus of having a camera makes the Move much better than the Wii. The PS move can detect movement much more quickly and accurately than the Wii. The Move also has a nice sphere at the end of it, and a much better ergonomic shape compared to the Wii remote, which is pretty much square. Not to also mention that when connecting a Nunchuk controller you have the horrible dangly wire with it, but the ps3 doesnt with the navigation controller.
Overall
The PS Move is a brilliant piece of kit, with a good shape and great accuracy. I would recommend this to anyone, however there should be more PS move games out there, as there is not much games now. Sony made the right decision to continue the EYETOY
