PlayStation Move Review

Posted: January 30, 2011 by sandsrules in Gaming, Hardware

I just bought a Playstation move yesterday! I bought the move starter pack, which came with the PS Eye, PS Move and the Move Starter disc. I am really enjoying this and I thought i ought to make a review.

The Move itself.
The PS Move is a very good shape, and fits very nicely in the hand. The move button is a thumb-like shape and is really easy to press. The trigger on the back is also a very nice shape for your index finger and has a very nice spring-like feel to it.
The sphere on the end of the controller is very nice, and lights up a certain colour depending on what activity or game you are playing. One let down is that because it is a rubbery material, lots of dirt is easily attracted to it, and the only way of getting of off is by cleaning it with water or a wipe. Its hard to just rub off.
However, because the sphere is rubbery, it doesn’t smash or break easily. Its quite a durable controller, and comes with a nice hand strap as well.

Working with the Eye.
The PS Move is a great piece of kit, but you can only use it if you buy a Playstation eye, which is a bit costly as it costs around £25. However when they are both set up, the move is INCREDIBLY accurate and tracks your movements very easily and quickly. The playstation eye itself is a let down though. The quality is only 640×480 pixels, its grainy and works appallingly in low light. It looks a little bit ugly as well, with a huge microphone at the top sticking out a bit. However, it does the job well and takes pictures and videos.

Comparison to Rivals
Kinect-
Compared to the Kniect I would personally prefer the PS Move. However, i prefer the Kinect to the PS eye. The Kinect is HD, and has a colour lens and TWO INFRARED LENS for 3D. The Kinect is much more better and tracking 3d movement compared to the PS eye, however the move controllers make up for this in a much more accurate way, and costs slightly less. However, if you prefer hands-free motion, then you should go for the kinect.

Wii- The Move is outstandily advanced compared to the Nintendo Wii, and the added bonus of having a camera makes the Move much better than the Wii. The PS move can detect movement much more quickly and accurately than the Wii. The Move also has a nice sphere at the end of it, and a much better ergonomic shape compared to the Wii remote, which is pretty much square. Not to also mention that when connecting a Nunchuk controller you have the horrible dangly wire with it, but the ps3 doesnt with the navigation controller.

Overall

The PS Move is a brilliant piece of kit, with a good shape and great accuracy. I would recommend this to anyone, however there should be more PS move games out there, as there is not much games now. Sony made the right decision to continue the EYETOY

New PS3 3.56 Firmware Released

Posted: January 28, 2011 by sandsrules in Uncategorized

Yesterday, on the 27th January 2011, Sony released their PS3 System Software 3.56, after word got to them that their so called ‘un-hackable’ firmware 3.55 had finally been jailbroken. The 3.56 breaks all jailbreaks and exploits. But don’t worry, near when sony releases their next system software, their will hopefully be a patch.

3DS Release Date Revealed!

Posted: January 21, 2011 by sandsrules in Gaming, General

The new Nintendo 3DS has been manufactured by Nintendo and the released date has spread through the public. The 3DS is supposed to be a “new revolutionary system that can play 3D games without the use of 3D glasses“. I believe that Nintendo must have really tried hard to find a way of 3D gaming, but I doubt that the 3D quality and experience will greatly differ from Red/Cyan glasses and cross-eye.

The release date has been confirmed to release on 25th March 2011, but at a hefty £229.99, the prices are going to shock a lot of people. The top screen is Widescreen whereas the bottom screen is smaller but has touch-sensitive buttons.

The 3DS comes in two ‘so-called’ colours. Aqua Blue comes with the bottom half blue and the top half black, but Cosmos Black is just all black. No more red, huh?

Also with WiFi and new ‘StreetPass’ system aswell, the 3DS is One Of Its Kind. Also with the ability of taking 3D pictures and built in motion sensor and gyroscope, the 3DS is really something!

Well, those so-called ‘geniuses’ at Sony thought they could put an end to hackers activity on their systems with a PS3 update. The 3.55 update contained patches against hacking such as PSJailbreak, x3Max and PSGroove. However, everything changed on the 9th January 2011 when Geohot managed to crack open the 3.55 firmware and release a jailbroken one with the special hackers utility to install packages, but only the special packages signed for 3.55. This means CURRENTLY no backup manager, and most other homebrew packages that have been used on older firmware.

Install Package Files Image

Bad news for Sony though. Because the jailbroken system does not appear to be modified in any way, and the system firmware does not appear to have change, Sony cannot track down and ban players using the jailbreak ‘cheat’ on their hack.

What may be frustrating, however, is that customers who have spent over $100 on PSJailbreak will now have to consider that ‘USB plug in’ modchip worthless.

PS3 250GB Review

Posted: December 26, 2010 by sandsrules in Uncategorized

My review as seen on amazon

Being an elite gamer, i decided to buy this item. I was very pleased at the quick delivery and the ps3 itself. I first bought the PS3 after finding out that it can play blu-ray discs, and outputs at a stunning high definition resolution. Since the bundle came with two blu-ray discs, i wanted to see how good the definition was. It was fantastic! And then theres the gaming. Although the PS3 does not have a wide variety of games unlike the Wii and Xbox 360, the games also output at high definition. The graphics are amazing, so that pretty much explains why the price of games are so expensive. The controller is wireless, and very easy to get used to, but the two triggers (L2, R2) can make fingers slip off. I also enjoyed browsing the store, watching iPlayer and Youtube and music videos aswell! Brilliant! Overall, great system, stunning high def and free online play unlike the Xbox.

Incase you didn’t get all of that i’ve written it down here for you:
Pros-
High definition
Blu-ray player
Bluetooth Headset Compatible
Slimmer than previous PS3 (Duh)
Lighter
WiFi connection and Wired Connection
Wireless controller
And unlike the xbox 360, playing online is FREE.

Cons-
No High Definition Multimedia Interface cable (HDMI)- To fix this I bought 1.8M HDMI to HDMI Cable – Gold Connectors – For Use With HD TV’s / Xbox 360 / PS3 etc but any cheap one will do.
Removed the “Install other OS” option in all slim models
L2 and R2 Triggers are quite easy to slip off -To fix this I bought Gioteck Real Triggers (PS3)
Standing up the PS3 Slim is quite wobbly – To fix this i bought Kamikaze Gear Slim Vertical Stand – Black (PS3)
Sony decided to ditch the idea of touch sensitive Power and eject buttons and replace them with normal “Click” buttons.
But the worst one is definetely the fact that…THERE ARE ONLY 2 USB JACKS!!!
Im not exactly sure if it would work but i would buy a USB multiport like this - 4 PORT SLIM & COMPACT USB MULTI HUB EXPANSION SPLITTER

Personally, i would say Great system, needs some improvement 9/10!

PSJailbreak: The USB Plug and Play Modchip for ALL PS3s

Posted: December 22, 2010 by sandsrules in Gaming, Hacking

JailbreakSo I have got something really interesting here! Its a Plug in modchip! How cool is that? I haven’t got it yet but I will be receiving it for Christmas so i’m looking forward to it. “What is it?” you ask. Well this is a post on what PSJailbreak is and how to use it!

PSJailbreak may come across as a regular USB flash drive. It, however, is much more than that. When inserted into the PS3 fat OR slim, the PS3 picks up the USB files and software preloaded onto the USB drive. You can then install the software called “Backup Manager” and copy games from your CD to the hard drive. Not only can it preserve discs but also games will run much faster as they are running off the hard drive not the CD.

Firstly, turn off the PS3. For slim users, you MUST take out the power chord. Next, insert PSJailbreak into a USB slot and turn the ps3 on. When the ps3 starts up, you need to keep pressing the EJECT button. There are different lights on the PSJailbreak USB drive. If its green that means you’re good to go…but red means that its been done wrong and you need to try again.

When you launch Backup Manager, you need to insert your game disc and follow on-screen instructions to copy the game disc. Then you will see 2 games. One of them is the on the disc and the other on the HDD.

When you’ve finished copying your games, just run games off the HDD using backup manager!

There are other ways you can use this Jailbreak to an advantage aswell but I’m not sure about that.

UPDATE: PSJailbreak claimed that this would work on future versions of System firmware above 3.50. They were wrong as the 3.55 firmware was ‘unhackable’ until geohot made a jailbroken firmware.
